Nobody is an island. We all live in an environment
which is not only there but for which we are responsible all together. And
in this environment it matters whether we live in a democratic society,
observing the rule of law and respecting human rights, accepting
“otherness”, living tolerance or …
Today, this is not only a task for politicians and
some idealists working in NGOs. No, the business community and in
particular large, international players are challenged and also measured on
their attitudes and activities towards democratic and ethical standards.
Market economy is the economic order for free
people living in a democratic society and enjoying human rights and civil
and political freedom. But as we know not only from the past but also from
recent experience we cannot take democracy and freedom for granted. We have
to defend and promote democracy and peoples’ rights day by day.
And daily there appear new threats and challenges.
Terrorism has reached a new dimension and threatens the international order.
Not only trade and commerce have globalized but also crime, corruption and
money-laundering. Monopolies of media endanger the freedom of opinion and
expression. The discrepancy between medical progress and the access to
health services is growing. Scientific progress has reached a speed which
scares many people and decreases social acceptance of new technologies, in
particular in the biotechnological field.
The European Democracy Forum addresses these hot
issues. International experts are studying the relevant developments and
propose solutions. Broad public debates are initiated to foster the
necessary consensus of business, science, politics and civil society.
But we need your help. We need your investment in
democracy. Therefore you are invited to become partners, sponsors and
donors of the European Democracy Forum. Partnership, sponsorship and
donations are possible for the Forum in general, or for certain activities,
e.g. BIOETICA, the first European forum on bioethics, for the network of
political schools (or a certain school of political studies in East or
South East Europe) or for one of the current experts activities (see
activities and network).
For PARTNERS who regularly support the Forum a
partnership agreement will define the relations including participation in
expert committees and the appointment of the CEO of the partner as Senator
for economic advise.
Sponsors who grant annual donations to the Forum
will be shown with their corporate logo on the website and in major
publications.
Other donors will be mentioned in the annual
reports.
Therefore, the European Democracy Forum allows the
private and public spheres to associate and identity themselves with
value-based projects in the various fields where democratisation and
international cooperation are the most needed.
This is an experience worth joining and
supporting. We invite you therefore to invest in democracy and a society
based on values and to become a partner, sponsor or donor of the European
Democracy Forum. Don’t hesitate to contact us.
